The FTP Plug-in allows Microsoft¿ Personal Web Server to double as an FTP server, allowing users to upload and download files.
Note: FTP can allow users to upload, change, and delete files from your site. To protect your site, check the Personal File Sharing access privileges for each folder on your FTP site to make sure that only users that you want to be able to edit your site have permission to make changes. (To view the File Sharing access privileges on a folder, select the folder in the Finder and choose Sharing... from the File menu.) For additional protection, you can make your site read-only by unchecking the Allow Users to Edit box in the FTP administration page. Turning off this option will prevent all users from uploading, changing, or deleting files from your site.
To use the FTP Plug-in:
1. Drag the FTP Plug-in icon from the Extras folder into the Server Plug-ins folder. (Server Plug-ins is located in the PWS folder in MS Internet inside your System Folder. There should also be an alias to Server Plug-ins in the Personal Web Server folder.)
2. Use Internet Explorer to access the FTP administration options by appending "ftp.ftp" to the URL for your Web site. For instance, if the Microsoft Personal Web Server control panel shows your URL as "http://www.yourcompany.com/", you would type "http://www.yourcompany.com/ftp.ftp" into the Internet Explorer Address field.

To open Personal Web Server Help, open the Microsoft Personal Web Server control panel and choose Personal Web Server Help... from the "?" menu. (To see the "?" menu, click the "?" icon in the menu bar at the top of the Macintosh screen.)
Controlling access to your FTP site
Like Personal Web Server, the FTP Plug-in uses MacOS Personal File Sharing privileges to control access to your FTP site.
Restricting access: To restrict access to your FTP site, you must assign MacOS Personal File Sharing privileges to your FTP folder, turn file sharing on, and check the "Restrict Access" option in the FTP administration page. Once access control is enabled, you can restrict access to any folder on your site using the See Files and Make Changes checkboxes in the file sharing privileges window for that folder.
Notes:
Ñ To open the sharing privileges window for a given folder, select the folder in the Finder and choose Sharing... from the File menu.
Ñ To change the privileges in the sharing privileges window, you have to check the "Share this item and its contents" option near the top of that window. Once you have set the privileges you may turn this option off. This option does not affect access to your FTP site.
Ñ Unlike with Personal Web Server, the Make Changes checkboxes in the sharing privileges window are used to control write privileges to your FTP site. Users who have access to make changes, can upload, modify, and delete items on your site.
Ñ The See Folders checkboxes do not affect your FTP site.
Anonymous access: Even if you restrict access to your site, you may allow guests to access specific folders on your site by checking the Allow Anonymous Users checkbox in the FTP administration page. If this option is enabled, you can allow guests to access a specific folder by checking the See Files checkbox for Everyone in the folder's sharing privileges window.
The W*API¬ Adapter Plug-in allows Microsoft Personal Web Server for Macintosh to use W*API¬ plug-ins. The W*API¬ Adapter Plug-in supports W*API¬ 1.1.
Note: The W*API¬ Adapter Plug-in included with Microsoft Personal Web Server 1.0 is a beta version and has not been fully tested. Please report problems with this plug-in to PWSMBugs@microsoft.com.
To use the W*API¬ Adapter Plug-in:
1. Drag the W*API¬ Adapter Plug-in icon from the Extras folder into the Server Plug-ins folder. (Server Plug-ins is located in the PWS folder in MS Internet inside your System Folder. There should also be an alias to Server Plug-ins in the Personal Web Server folder.)
2. Drag any W*API¬ plug-in icon into the Server Plug-ins folder.
3. Stop and restart publishing in the Microsoft Personal Web Server control panel.
4. To configure a W*API¬ plug-in, follow the instructions accompanying it.
Note: Because of differences between Microsoft Personal Web Server and WebStar¿, some W*API¬ plug-ins may not work properly with Microsoft Personal Web Server.
